CIPE Staff Rebut "Pro-EU" Portrayal of Moldova Government in POLITICO
Writing for POLITICO's European edition, Natalia Otel Belan and Marc Schleifer argue that the media got it wrong in reporting on the protest movement that recently stormed Moldova's parliament.
While Russia certainly has an interest in keeping Moldova unstable and out of the European orbit, Moscow is not orchestrating these protests — and the country’s current government is hardly living up to its “pro-EU” billing.
They note that pro-democracy Moldovan reformers were confused and even insulted by the media portrayal of the protests as "Russia-backed" and note that the government is hardly living up to its purported European values.
