About the Event
The Policy & Program Learning team is excited to invite you to the final installation of this season of Research Unbound. This webinar explores the issues faced by women-led enterprises in Pakistan during the COVID-19 pandemic. Firms run by women are more exposed to the challenges of the pandemic, facing difficulties in accessing financing to maintain cashflow solvency, applying and receiving government support, and surviving through government measures to contain the virus. To analyze in more depth, this webinar emphases on the measures taken by private sector to make their business more sustainable amid the changing nature of product demand and hurdles in continuity of business activities.
About the Speakers
Tamari Dzotsenidze
Tamari Dzotsenidze serves as Moderator of this event. She is the Associate Program Officer of the PPL Program Team. Tamari also coordinates Free Enterprise & Democracy Network (FEDN) activities and member relations, develops content for PPL outreach, and manages social media strategy. Tamari comes to CIPE with experience at Human Rights Campaign, CALPIRG, Brookings, and Daily Nexus.
Barbara Langley
Barbara Langley serves as Director for CIPE’s Center for Women’s Economic Empowerment, democratizing opportunity for women by fostering ecosystems for entrepreneurship. In this capacity, she leads CIPE’s strategy to amplify the voice of the private sector through women’s equal participation in free markets and democratic institutions. Throughout her career, Langley has conducted campaign management, communications, coalition building, issues advocacy, good governance and accountability, leadership and strategic planning programs for democratic political and civic activists, business leaders, local elected officials and parliamentary and campaign staff. She has worked extensively with marginalized sectors of society including women, youth, and persons with disabilities.
Misbah Hameed Qureshi
Misbah Hameed Qureshi is an independent researcher and PhD scholar at Pakistan Institute of Development Economics, who is currently pursuing her research at University of Basel, Switzerland. She has expertise in the fields of energy economics and business regulatory environment. Her research work, further, revolves around exploring the challenges businesses have been facing during the time of crisis, how government policy can support, and the measures needs to be taken for resilience. In the past she has worked with number of national and international development partners. These includes but not limited to University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Mercy corp., USAID, Apna Arsh Pakistan, UNDP, British Council, CIPE etc. She is also involved in social development in Pakistan and works as CEO of SOUL (School of Ultimate Learning) foundation.
