Statement/News Release

Thomas J. Donohue: 1938-2024

“Tom will be forever remembered as a landmark figure in the field of policy advocacy,” said Greg Lebedev, Chairman of CIPE. “He was an avid supporter of CIPE’s mission to strengthen democratic governance throughout the world and a passionate voice on behalf of the power of free enterprise to transform lives and entire economies.”

In addition to serving as President and later as President Emeritus of CIPE, Donohue was CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce from 1997 to 2019. During his tenure, he reestablished the Chamber as a political powerhouse and expanded its influence across the globe. He vigorously challenged attacks on free enterprise, while working to protect the business community’s right to speak and participate in the political and policy affairs of the nation. Lebedev added, “Tom Donohue will be missed and forever admired.”
